It is a Daihatsu Charade, 1985 Carburetor G11 Turbo Model. The original fuel Pump which was installed inside the Fuel Tank went faulty. An external fuel pump has been installed instead. The car can be driven around and the engine functions well as long as the Turbo does not come in. Whenever the Turbo cuts in and the pressure reaches about 0.3 bars or above, the engine stalls. Have to wait for about 20 to 30 minutes before it can restart.

You are correct, the pump is in the gas tank. Occassionally (very rarely), you might find an access hatch in the trunk floor, but don't count on it.

As this is an electric pump, you also need to check items like fuses and fuel pump relays, and an Auto Supply expert can help you with that. You can also determine whether the pump is running by removing the gas cap and putting an ear to the opening while someone switches the ignition key off and on. You should be able to hear faint electric motor noise if the pump is running.

To get to the pump, remove as much gas as possible from the tank (to lighten the load when the tank is loosened), locate the two metal straps that hold the tank up, and find the tightening nuts and bolts at the rear edge of the tank. Arrange some kind of support (preferably a floor jack) under the tank and loosen the strap bolts. The tank will lower. Once these bolts and straps are separated the tank can be lowered enough to give you access to the top and the fuel pump/gas gauge sending unit. There is a locking ring that must be loosened and this is done with a hammer and screwdriver or chisel, turning it counterclockwise.

Remove the fuel lines and wiring (remembering what goes where) and then remove the pump assembly. Reassembly is the above in reverse order.
